Pente Pigadia Forts
The first of the Pente Pigadia forts is situated in the area of Kleisoura in the Prefecture of Preveza. It was built in the beginning of the nineteenth century at a very short distance from the other (second) fort in this region.
It was built in accordance with the polygonal system. This strategy was applied in the nineteenth century and imposed small keeps / detached ravelins for covering the defense of a wider area. Today it is deserted. In the beginning of the nineteenth century, the second of the Pente Pigadia forts was built a very short distance from the other (first) fort of the region. It is a small fort, preserved up to the second floor. The entire form of the fort follows the Western European baroque style. The castle’s stonework was done with painstaking care. The main entrance is at the eastern wing. The castle was built according to the general fortification principles of the nineteenth century, i.e. the polygonal system applied by the French. Today the fort stands in relatively good condition.
