Castle of Anthousa
After having cheated Danzelot, the French governor of the Ionian Isands, the shrewd Ali Pasha (1788-1822) built the imposing castle of Anthousa at a key location, affording control over the area of Parga and the Ionian Sea.
It is a well-designed castle upon the hilltop of the village bearing the same name, and was built right after the punishment of its inhabitants for their alliance to Parga (1814). The shape of the castle is rectangular and its dimensions are relatively small. Immediate works of restoration are necessary.
